on Brick And Mortar
Oozing with an intoxicating take on ‘60s girl group glitz and ‘70s fuzz-rock, you could swear Vancouver, B.C.’s Chains of Love walked right out of a high school time capsule. Replete with cutesy melodies, even on songs with more ominous titles like “Black Hearts,” the beauty in Chains of Love’s sunny sentimentality is in the non-irony of its affinity for genre-definers like The Ronettes. But despite the more obvious compari- sons, the group’s raucous live performances distance them from the hitch of mere retro-revivalists.
