Taking their name from a Syd Barrett-penned song, you’d halfway expect a vague tribute to pre-Wall Pink Floyd, or some semblance of ‘70s psychedelia. The truth is, the spastic new wave of London’s Chapter 24 goes beyond the Floyd obsession, and on into manic realms of frenetic post-punk you might find at a neighborhood basement gig. Their single “Spindle” explodes with fussy, furiously strummed guitar and stuttering vocal blips and moans, and is over before you hit two minutes. The B-side offering of their Odd Box single, “4454,” is a more vivid study on Talking Heads-meets-Wild-Flag abandon.
