From high school in Chapel Hill, NC to stages all across the world, 19-year-old Porter Robinson has a remarkably busy career for such a young age. Beginning his foray into electronic experimentation at the incredible age of 12, Robinson started programming songs on Sony’s ACID inspired by the music of his video games. Constructing his electro-dance tracks in his bedroom, Robinson began uploading his songs on message boards and the music site “Acidplanet,” where he first learning the ropes of songwriting through trial and error.

Upgrading to FL Studio and an arsenal of plugins, Robinson’s first single, “Say My Name,” quickly took off, hitting the Beatport Electro-House chart at #1. In 2011 Robinson signed to OWSLA, beginning his working relationship with label owner and producer Skrillex, who he shared a stage with for the Project Blue Book and OWSLA tour last year. Playing his very first DJ set before ever seeing a DJ live himself, Por- ter sets the distinction that he is first and foremost a music writer, explaining in an interview with Sala- cious Sound, “I definitely fall in the ‘not-primarily a DJ’ camp. My interest, first and foremost, is to make really powerful music with awesome drops that get people excited.”

As if touring the globe and producing his own tracks wasn’t enough, Porter has been sought out to create official remixes for such artists as Lady Gaga, Grammy nominated DJ Tim Bergling, and an array of popular electronic acts. Did I mention that he’s only nineteen years-old?

Opting out of college to pursue music full-time, Robinson already has a packed schedule ahead of him for 2012. With a tour schedule that reads as a who’s who in international music festivals, Porter Robinson already boasts upcoming appearances at Coachella, the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and the Future Music Festival in Australia, just to name a few. All things considered, his Noise Pop show at The Fox Theater is probably going to be his most intimate of the year, all the more reason to catch him while you can.
