For most of his musical career Tyler Lyle has been making the kind of affable bluesy folk-pop where you would expect to find plenty of gardens and wine and rivers. This year, however, after a tumultuous break- up, Lyle recorded The Golden Age and the Silver Girl, a concept record which deals with the busted relationship head-on. The LP finds Lyle sounding edgier, darker, angry. There are still some songs about rivers, a few more songs about wine, and a couple ones about the fear of dying alone.
